Fine endgame

With the New York tournament commanding our full attention for several weeks running, our coverage of events in the larger chess world has of late fallen unavoidably into arrears.  We hope to make up that deficit, at least in part, during the present lull before the commencement of the forthcoming Havana tourney, and as a first step toward that end we present the following filigree endgame, won recently by Herr Schönmann, of Hamburg, and which we commend to the attention of our readers.  The maneuvers by the White Bishop are most fine, while the concluding pawn move, which lends an artistic finishing touch to the effort, brings about a situation in which Black is undone by the obligation to move - what the Germans call zugzwang.
